How Account Deletion Works

This page explains the immediate, irreversible in-app deletion flow and how active care, sole-owned pets, shared pets, and shared care history are handled.

Deletion is immediate and irreversible

PetShift account deletion is completed inside the app from Account > Privacy & data. After successful fresh password verification and any required care checks, deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Delete your account in the app

In PetShift, go to Account > Privacy & data and choose the account deletion option. PetShift requires fresh password verification before deletion can continue.

Deleting the app from your phone is not the same as deleting your account. Uninstalling removes the app from your device, but it does not necessarily remove account, stay, pet, invite, report, or shared care records from the service.

Active care may block deletion

If your account is responsible for active accepted care, PetShift may block deletion until that care is resolved. This helps protect pets, owners, sitters, and active handoffs from losing access during an accepted stay or care responsibility.

What happens to pets

Sole-owned pets are withdrawn as part of account deletion. If a pet is shared with co-owners, ownership must be transferred to an active co-owner before deletion can complete.

Shared history after deletion

Some PetShift history is shared between authorized owners and sitters. After deletion, retained shared history is pseudonymized as Deleted member so other authorized participants can still see the care record without seeing the deleted member’s active account identity.

What deletion does not replace

Account deletion is separate from emergency pet care, owner-sitter coordination, veterinary care, and local emergency services. Resolve active care responsibilities before deleting an account whenever possible.
